Oh Body Butter
I understand that practice makes perfect and that patience is a virtue but HONEYYYY let me tell you, I followed step by step and for some reason my body butter would not come out for the life of me. I’m not sure if it’s because right now it’s freezing in Toronto because it’s winter time but I do have my heat on as well so that’s my first confusion. If the heat is on and I’m following everything accordingly and taking notes WHY THE HELL IS IT HARD LIKE A ROCK!!!
My parents and I figured maybe I needed to get a stand mixer instead of using a hand mixer but no, instead my batch sat in a metal bowl being mixed for about 40 minutes, turned out to still be liquidy, poured into their jars and BAM stiff. What I thought would be a cool and easy creation ended up being the biggest pain. I added more oils, decreased the amount of oils, added a bit more arrowroot, decreased the arrowroot, stored in the fridge in intervals of 5 minutes with mixing in between, stored in the fridge until 50% solid, literally nothing made a difference.
So like many of us would do, I went back to YouTube and watched some more videos except this time I resorted to Bramble Berry videos. As I watched some of the videos I realized that the Soap Queens body butter actually looked a lot like mine did and she even mentioned that after a certain time frame they harden a bit but still blend into your skin very easily.
With the batch I made, I made a Ginger and Turmeric Body Butter for my mom because she loves both of those things. I also made a pink Grapefruit scented Body Butter for myself and I’ve used it on my legs for about a week now and I must say.. I am a bit impressed with how it came out. My mom is half way through her jar and I’ve only used about 1 quarter of mine.
What I’ve noticed about my pink coloured and grapefruit scented body butter:
- Is a bit solid but blends into skin so quickly
- Because of Health Canada guidelines, I kept the essential oils to a minimum to prevent irritation so the fragrance isn’t very strong
- I used Grapeseed Oil as a carrier oil and there isn’t any scent
- I’ve found that the natural scent of Shea Butter kind of overpowers the EO/FO
- Not greasy at all thanks to the Arrowroot powder
After many tries I finally came up with the perfect batch and it’s currently being sold on our site. We have gotten soooo many good responses from it and would love for you to check it out, our link is below!
